Abounding Joy Black type placed in the Interborough Stakes

Abounding Joy kicked off the new year with a runner up effort first off the bench in the Interborough S at Aqueduct.

We knew going in it was going to be ambitious to run in a 7f Stakes against in form fillies and she performed up to expectations.  The daughter of Champion sire Quality Road; Abounding Joy didn’t disappoint and gave us great confidence coming out of the race that a potential stakes win this season is achievable.  There were so many positives to take away from this performance.

Abounding Joy broke alertly and sat in a good stalking position.  It was good to see her put herself into the race off the layoff and Junior Alvarado wasn’t having to push her to engage.  Turning for home she put the pressure on the front runners and made a strong move to put away the early pacesetters but could not hold off Saguaro Row, a filly that their connections have had high hopes for and is already an established stakes filly with graded placings.

Abounding Joy did not give up and fought through the wire, diminishing the lead that was put on her with every stride.  She cooled out well and scoped clean after the race but was definitely tired as would be expected.  We will monitor how she trains once returned to the track in the next several days and begin to discuss options with Bill Mott.  We couldn’t have been happier with Abounding Joy’s comeback performance and she looks to have returned to the races in career form.

Here we go, the 2020 Stablemates Racing Syndicate is ready to get the season started with stakes action.  Abounding Joy is entered in the Interborough Stakes at Aqueduct and is installed at 5/1 on the morning line.  Abounding Joy is a filly that we had high hopes for in 2019 before going to the sidelines, she returns to Aqueduct the site of her best career race and is now in the care of the hall of fame conditioner Bill Mott.

Saguaro Row the 2-1 morning line favorite is a stakes winner over the course, winning the Pumpkin Pie Stakes in November and most recently 2nd in the   G3 Go For Wand Stakes  in December beaten by G1 winner Spiced Perfection.  Our Circle of Love is the 5/2 second choice coming off a 2nd place finish in the Garland of Roses beaten by Pauseforthecause, who Abounding Joy beat by 3 lengths in her victory at Aqueduct.

Abounding Joy has been training well and we expect a good performance.  The race is at 7 furlongs and a very difficult distance to return off a layoff, many in the field have been running over the last several months and will have a fitness advantage.  Her post position is ideal, if she is able to break well Junior Alvarado should be able to sit a nice stalking trip on the outside and be in the mix turning for home.  Abounding Joy could get tired the last eighth having not raced in 234 days but we expect a big effort.  Good luck to everyone!
