Seascape – 3-20-2021
After a long road to the races, Fashion Icon made her debut on Friday night at Turfway Park, facing nine other fillies in a maiden claiming $30,000-$20,000 going 6 1/2 furlongs over the Tapeta surface.
The Kitten’s Joy filly loaded into the gate like she’s done it a million times before, and after the break, settled in behind the group of leaders beneath jockey Deshawn Parker. She remained in that position down the backstretch, beginning to advance along the rail as they turned for home.
Despite drifting a bit outward, Fashion Icon continued to accelerate. She kicked clear down the lane, drawing away in the final strides to cross the wire two lengths in front.
A WinStar Farm homebred, Fashion Icon is out of the multiple black-type-winning dam, I Think So. She is that mare’s first foal to make it to the races, and after winning so easily on debut, hopes are high for further improvement.
