Congratulations on culminating the racing season with a big win. New Day Dawning came out of her race well on Saturday and scoped perfectly clean. If you haven’t watched the replay or if you haven’t watched it enough, enjoy again REPLAY. She received a 61 Beyer for her performance which I thought was a little low but considering she was geared down the final 1/16 I would not put too much thought into the figure.
New Day Dawning showed several positive progressions by relaxing and settling into stride then when Irad asked for her to engage and make her move she did so willingly. Again, she showed some greenness down the lane wanting to get out, there is a large video screen at Gulfstream and she was “gawking” around according to Irad, so this may have added to her course. If you watch the head on you will see she did not break with professionalism and will need to improve in this area when encountering winners at the next level. At the 4:00 mark of the replay you get a nice iso shot of New Day Dawning pulling up, this shows another positive. When you watch she shows no signs of distress, ears pricked and full of confidence, all very positive body language. This shows that she took to the whole experience well and enjoyed it, in my opinion she looks pretty proud of herself.
Rodolphe will monitor how she trains over the next several weeks and if she keeps her head in the feed tub. If New Day Dawning shows good energy and puts weight on she will tentatively have her first breeze back in approximately two weeks. We will watch how she breezes and look at races for her in about a month or so, both stakes and allowance options.
